Shamrock Rovers II secured their first point of the season thanks to a 1-1 draw against Galway United at Tallaght Stadium.

In windy conditions at Tallaght Stadium, both sides struggled to fashion many chances in the first-half as the weather played havoc.

However, both sides could have took the lead before the break. Firstly, in the 39th minute, Carlton Ubaezuonu got on the end of Shane Duggan's cross but he could only head wide.

Two minutes later, Thomas Oluwa should have given the home side the lead. He found himself clean through but after his shot beat Kevin Horgan, it hit the post and came back out to Alex Dunne but he smashed the ball over the bar.

Rovers finally took the lead with just over 20 minutes remaining. Brandon Kavanagh's 30-yard free-kick was fantastic and Horgan couldn't keep it out to put the home side ahead.

Galway United put the young Rovers side under plenty of late pressure and it finally told five minutes from time. Conor Melody was able to find an impressive cross and Conor Barry was there at the back post to finish.
