Shelbourne battled to earn a deserved point in a hard-fought contest against Derry City at Tolka Park.

Derry looked like they were going to claim all three points until Ryan Brennan's late header secured an important point for Ian Morris' side.

Ibrahim Meite made his Derry debut following his move from Crawley Town and the conclusion of his isolation, and he notched a debut goal to put Derry ahead.

Meite received the ball in the area and produced a fantastic turn which saw Sean Quinn take him down, and he slotted home the resulting penalty in the 30th minute.

Derry looked like they were going to claim the victory until substitute Ryan Brennan headed home Alex O'Hanlon's fantastic cross 14 minutes from time to draw the home side level.

The Candystripes rallied and substitute Adam Hammill almost provided the winner. With six minutes remaining and in the space of a minute, Hammill hit the cross-bar twice with two fantastic efforts from just outside the area.

With a minute to go, Hammill provided another fantastic opportunity for Derry to win the match with a fantastic cross but Jack Malone headed over from six yards out.

With the draw, Shelbourne stay one place ahead of Derry in the Premier Division in sixth position and level on points with St. Patrick's Athletic who play tomorrow.
