Timmy Molloy scored a late screamer for UCD at Tolka Park to send them into the quarter-finals of the EA Sports Cup with a 2-1 win over Shelbourne on Tuesday night.
The home side enjoyed a fine start to the game and took the lead in the third minute when Lorcan Fitzgerald's corner was sent back across the box for Derek Prendergast to nod home.
That goal sprang UCD into life with Neil Farrugia coming within a post's distance of equalising just moments later. The two sides cancelled each other out for the remainder of the half but it looked like we were in for an entertaining second period.
However, the reality was far different with both sides struggling to create chances of note - the best of which saw UCD stopper Gavin Sheridan save well from Oscar Brennan.
With extra-time looming, much to the dismay of the few who braved the freezing conditions, Timmy Molloy picked up the ball and rifled a shot from 30 yards straight into the top corner. Cue wild celebrations from the visiting faithful as their team marched on.
