Shelbourne will play Drogheda United in the play-offs after they recorded a 3-0 win over Galway United at Tolka Park.

The Dublin side were positive from the start, getting down the wings and delivering dangerous crosses into the box.

Lorcan Fitzgerald was also causing havoc from corners; and the deadlock was broken with one in the fourth minute. James English was inexplicably left unmarked in the box to head Fitzgerald's in-swinger past Tadhg Ryan in the Galway goal.

The visitors hadn't learned from their mistakes five minutes later; this time leaving Derek Prendergast free in the area. They got away with it on this occasion, however, with his effort straight at Ryan.

Shelbourne were creating chances at ease and only for a world-class save from Ryan, they would have been 2-0 up after English powered a Karl Moore cross towards the bottom corner. Ryan threw his leg out, however, and somehow managed to prevent the ball from crossing the line.

Shels spent the remainder of the half forging opportunities but they couldn't find another way past Ryan, and Galway should have punished them by equalizing two minutes from the break. Conor Melody was found in acres of space in front of goal. He went for power over precision, however, and fired his shot straight at the legs of Delany.

The home side gave themselves some breathing space 12 minutes into the second half when Greg Moorhouse latched onto a long ball downfield and slotted under the onrushing Ryan.

Chances proved much harder to come by in the second half but Shels managed to grab a third in the 79th minute. Karl Moore battled hard to keep control of the ball in the box before finding Reece McEnteer, who swept past Ryan and into the bottom corner.

They were denied a fourth by the width of the post four minutes from time after Fitzgerald burst down the left and delivered a low cross into the box that looped up onto the far post via a deflection from the leg of a Galway defender.
