A Noel Hunt hat-trick helped Waterford FC advance to the Second Round of the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup after a 4-1 win against a spirited Skerries Town side on Saturday afternoon.

Noel Hunt and Gavan Holohan had Waterford 2-0 up at the break but Brian Snowe brought Skerries back into the game eight minutes into the second half.

Despite some chances for the home side, it was two further goals from Hunt that sealed Waterford’s progression.

Striker Hunt had Waterford in front midway through the first half when he caught out Town keeper Davis from 40 yards to find the net.

Nine minutes before the break it was 2-0. Paul Keegan’s corner found Gavan Holohan and he fired high into the back of the net.

Noel Hunt had a goal disallowed seven minutes into the second half before Skerries Town hit back.

Brian Snowe picked up possession outside the penalty box before finding the top corner to huge celebrations at Skerries Rugby Club.

Try as they might for an equaliser, it never arrived for Skerries.

Waterford’s Hunt headed home two Paul Keegan corners in the final five minutes to ensure a 4-1 win and progression into the next round.
