Sligo Rovers put another nail in the Cork City Premier Division coffin as they secured a 2-1 win over the Leesiders.

Ronan Coughlan's 75th-minute penalty sealed the win as Sligo climb to fourth in the table as City remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

It looked like Cork City were going to get a perfect start when they were awarded a penalty in the ninth minute. Kit Elliott stepped up but as he did, he slipped and Ed McGinty saved his effort.

It went from bad to worse for City just two minutes later when Sligo took the lead. A long ball up-field from McGinty somehow found it's way through the Cork defence to Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe who slid the ball under Liam Bossin.

The Leesiders showed plenty of fight after the break and were deservedly level in the 61st minute. Dylan McGlade's left-sided free-kick somehow found it's way all the way through to the net to level the tie.

It was the relegated-threatened Cork who dominated and looked like they would take the lead until a hammer blow 15 minutes from time. Bossin couldn't collect a cross and committed a foul in the area as Ronan Coughlan tucked the ball away from the spot to put Sligo ahead.

The Leesiders continued to fight like their Premier Division status depended on it but it was another huge blow in their battle to beat the drop to the First Division. Cork remain bottom with Harps set to play later this evening.
