Shamrock Rovers continued their 100% record in the SSE Airtricity Premier League with a 3-2 victory over Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds.

Star man Jack Byrne put the men from Tallaght in front after his sharp turn and shot beat Ed McGinty in the 23rd minute.

But the Bit O’Red were back level from the spot in the 41st minute. The referee adjudged that David Cawley was brought down by Roberto Lopes and Ronan Coughlan stepped up and converted the spot kick.

In the second half Shamrock Rovers came out looking for that winner and they had to wait until the 76th minute to regain the lead  when Aaron McEneff finished off a slick move.

Five minutes later Aaron Greene made it 3-1 when he was allowed space to find the top corner from close range.

Niall Morahan got a late consolation for Liam Buckley’s team but the defeat means they rooted to the bottom of the table without any points on the board.

For Stephen Bradley’s side it’s a dream start to the season.

Result: Sligo Rovers 2-3 Shamrock Rovers (Coughlan 41’, Morahan 90’. Byrne 23’, McEneff 76’, Greene 81’)
