St. Patrick's Athletic dropped their first points of the season as they were held to a scoreless draw at home to Finn Harps.

Chances were few and far between in the first half as Pat's were frustrated by a resolute Harps defence. The best opportunites came from set-pieces.

Mikey Drennan hit a free-kick at goal in the 10th minute, forcing Harps goalkeeper Peter Burke into a save. Ciaran Kelly then had an opportunity for the home side, receiving the ball from a Rhys McCabe free kick before volleying just wide.

Ten minutes before the break, McCabe himself shot over after some neat build-up play between Drennan and Gary Shaw.

The second half began at a frantic pace with Drennan going close for the home side before a flurry of Harps chances. The first fell to Sean Boyd, who had his shot blocked by Webster before Niall McGinley's speculative effort went over the bar.

With the away fans sensing a breakthrough, Boyd again went close with a header from Mark Coyle's corner.

Just after the hour, Saints substiture Brandon Miele's deflected effort bounced off the post before going behind off Burke. Harps had an effort in added time as Sam Todd headed a corner directly at Clarke.

The home crowd continued to cheer their side on but in the end they went home disappointed. Harps showed plenty of mettle to keep Pats at bay and follow up their draw against Dundalk with another impressive result.

Next up for Pat's, a trip to to UCD on Friday. Finn Harps will host Sligo Rovers on the same night.
