St. Patrick's Athletic held Dundalk with the Lilywhites forced to wait until European football next season can be confirmed.

Pat Hoban put Dundalk ahead but former Lilywhite Robbie Benson found an equaliser after the break as the teams shared the points.

The Lilywhites got off to a great start after their recent UEFA Europa League defeat to Arsenal and took the lead in the 23rd minute.

Stefan Colovic delivered a fine cross to the back-post for Darragh Leahy to set up Hoban for a simple finish from close range.

Pats improved after the break and were level in the 64th minute. A looping cross from the right found the giant leap of Robbie Benson who rose highest to head home, a fantastic header from the former Dundalk man.

Substitute David McMillan almost stole all three points with nine minutes left after he was put in on the left-side of the area by Hoban but his powerful effort was well saved by Brendan Clarke.
