St. Patrick’s Athletic did well to keep Dundalk at bay in their Premier Division clash at Richmond Park on Monday night, with the sides playing out a scoreless draw. It was Dundalk who had the game’s first clear chance. A great ball over the top found Patrick Hoban in space, who took the ball down well on his chest, turning, only for Barry Murphy to save well from his strike. Saints stood strong for the majority of the first half but remained camped in their own half as Dundalk dominated the ball without creating too many clear chances. That stubbornness weakened towards the break and it took two goal-line clearances to keep Daniel Cleary at bay. First, a header was destined for the bottom corner before being turned away by Darragh Markey, with Kevin Toner then producing one of the saves of the season with his head to deny Ronan Murray from finding the top corner. Ronan Murray came close on the hour mark with a thunderous free-kick that crashed off the crossbar, while Ryan Brennan found space at the other end but headed over in a rare venture forward for the ex-Bray man. From then, both sides looked to win but neither could create anything of real note.
