St. Patrick's Athletic secured passage to the next round but they didn't have it all their own way. The Premier Division side had the majority of the ball in the first half but were restricted to crosses into the box that were generally dealt with by Bluebell. The one cross they failed to get near found Dennehy left unmarked directly in front of goal to head home with a minute to go until the break. The second half was a similar affair to the first with St Pats enjoying most of the possession but unable to create many clear cut chances. With St Pats wasteful, Bluebell almost made them pay when Shane Stritch raced onto a long ball from defence and touched the ball past the keeper. Luckily for Pats, they had a recovering defender on hand to see the ball wide. Bluebell thought they had equalised deep into injury time but Murphy managed to scramble the ball away and Pats progressed.
