St. Patrick’s Athletic made it three straight home wins in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division as they saw off high-flying Waterford at Richmond Park on Monday evening. It was Ryan Brennan who got the game’s only goal as he arrived in the box just in time to get on the end of a delightful Darragh Markey cross from the left. Market, did well on the wing before clipping a ball into the six-yard box for Brennan to get off the mark in Inchicore. Brennan soon thought he had made it two with an emphatic finish on the half-volley, only for referee Graham Kelly to pull play back and award a penalty for a Sander Puri push on Jake Keegan. Keegan himself stepped up but shot his spot-kick wide. Puri was booked for his part in the foul and that yellow card came back to haunt him as he saw red early in the second half for simulation on the edge of the Saints box. Gavin Holohan joined him for an early bath when he was given a straight red for a reckless challenge on Markey deep in the opposition half. Owen Garvan and Conan Byrne came on late for Pat’s as they looked to see out the game and look ahead to Saturday’s trip to face Sligo Rovers.
