St Patrick's Athletic threw away a golden chance to secure a vital three points by conceding a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Galway United at Richmond Park. The home side took the lead through Conan Byrne's strike three minutes into the second half but Padraic Cunningham bundled the ball over the line six minutes from time to leave both sides with a point that does little to help their survival hopes. The first half was a dire affair typical of a relegation dog fight with J.J. Lunney at left-back the only creative source for Pats, and Galway attempting to catch them on the break with longs balls from back to front. Byrne's low shot into the bottom left-hand corner early in the second half looked like it was going to kick Pats into gear but they struggled to create anything for an isolated Christy Fagan up front, and have Conor O'Malley to thank for keeping them in the game with some world class saves. Both teams will leave Inchicore frustrated at failing to secure a win over a fellow relegation rival.
