Bohemians made it two from two with a comfortable win over newly promoted UCD at Belfield on Friday.

Goals from Danny Mandriou and Dinny Corcoran in the first-half saw The Gypsies home. It could have been so different at Belfield. Inside forty seconds, Neil Farrugia broke down the left, and found Jason McClelland.

From eight yards, he pushed the effort wide of the right post. But in truth, Bohs were the better team for large swathes, and they began to dominate from there.

Keith Ward and Keith Buckley had chances before they finally took the lead in the 29th minute. It was fine solo goal, as Mandriou beat his man on the edge of the box, before smashing a superb shot past Conor Kearns.

The UCD keeper got a hand to it, but he couldn’t prevent the ball going over the line, off the underside of the crossbar.

It was two a few minutes later. Paddy Kirk beat Dan Tobin on the left, before picking out Dinny Corcoran with a cross. The former UCD striker hit the ball across Kearns, and into the left corner.

It could have been three before the break. Keith Ward’s inventive backheel set up Mandriou, but his shot from inside the box was deflected out for a corner. The Students showed a bit more intent in the second-half, but Bohs always looked comfortable.

The game needed a UCD goal, but they rarely threatened. McClelland and Conor Davis had chances, but James Talbot was equal to the efforts on both occasions. The Gypsies kept the Students at arm’s length though, and it sets them up nicely for Monday’s Dublin Derby with Shamrock Rovers at Dalymount.
