UCD came out on top of a disappointing affair with a 1-0 win over strugglers Wexford FC.

The home side had the better of the exchanges during the first half but, other than a handful of half chances, they failed to create many chances of note.

Wexford dominated possession during the opening exchanges of the second period but they struggled to create anything. UCD eventually managed to get back on top of their second from bottom opponents and their pressure eventually told when a scramble in the box resulted in the ball falling into the path of Robert Manley.

With defenders and keeper desperately hurling themselves at him, the winger managed to keep his composure and slot the ball underneath Danny Bolger. UCD had a chance to double their lead with three minutes remaining when the referee pointed to the spot but top scorer Georgie Kelly saw his penalty saved before smashing the rebound off the underneath of the crossbar.

The result means little to both sides but Collie O'Neill will be happy to see his side end a run of four league games without a victory.
