UCD came back to claim the points against Shelbourne on the opening night of the new SSE Airtricity League First Division.

The Students were the better team throughout, and were full value for their win. UCD dominated for nearly thirty minutes before Shels took the lead. Georgie Kelly's spectacular effort in the 19th minute was the pick of their early chances.

His scissor-kick from just inside the box was just wide to the right of Dean Delany's goal. Before that, Kelly had an effort just wide in the 6th minute, while Daire O'Connor's deflected shot nearly nestled in the corner of Delany's net in the 14th minute.

But Shelbourne had the lead in the 28th minute. Gavin Boyne played it to Dale Rooney, who crossed from the right. David O'Sullivan flicked it on, and James English was there to head home from six yards. Their first attack had yielded a goal.UCD were level inside five minutes of the second-half. Jason McClelland was the creator, making a fine run down the left wing, before setting up Kelly.

The 2017 First Division Top Scorer's effort was blocked, but Sloggett was on hand to tap home the equaliser. And College took the lead fifteen minutes later. A ball over the top split the Shelbourne defence. Gary O'Neill's initial effort was saved, before Kelly smashed the post from eleven yards. But The Students weren't to be denied, and Timmy Molloy finished from close range to complete the comeback, and secure the points.
