Dundalk made it five wins in a row after a comfortable 3-0 win over Waterford FC in the RSC on Monday night.
Jordan Flores scored either side of a Michael Duffy brace to pick up the three points with Bastien Hery sent off for the home side. Dundalk had the first chance after just nine minutes when Patrick Hoban played in Michael Duffy from the left but his powerful strike was saved by Matthew Connor.
Connor was threatened again shortly afterwards when Michael Duffy was found by Daniel Kelly but Connor made the save. Jordan Flores shot wide for the visitors before Waterford had their first chance.
Izzy Akinade cut inside from the left and fired at goal but his powerful effort rose just over the crossbar of Gary Rogers. Dundalk made their first half possession count with the lead goal two minutes before half time.
Maxim Kouogun fouled Michael Duffy and his free kick deceived a busy penalty box to nestle in the far corner. Dundalk should have doubled their lead in stoppage time; Duffy found Daniel Kelly coming from the right but Connor made a great save to deny the attacker.
But Dundalk did make it 2-0 with a goal of real quality 11 minutes into the second half. Patrick Hoban and Michael Duffy linked up down the left before laying the ball for Jordan Flores to power into the top corner from 25 yards.
Waterford’s challenge was made all the harder with two yellow cards in two minutes to reduce the home side to ten men. And Dundalk took full advantage when they made it 3-0; Michael Duffy picking up possession outside the penalty area and he brilliantly found the bottom corner from 20 yards to secure the win.
