The spoils were shared at the RSC as Waterford FC and Derry City played out a 1-1 draw.

Derry City opened the scoring after just 11 minutes when Ciaran Coll’s deep cross evaded Waterford FC keeper Matthew Connor and Junior Ogedi-Ozokwe was in the right place to chest the ball into the net.

David Parkhouse should have doubled the lead midway through the first half but he fired over the crossbar. Walter Figueira crossed to the back post for Michael O’Connor who sees his shot well blocked, and John Kavanagh’s rebound saw Cherrie make a good save.

Cherrie was forced into another good from Kevin Lynch’s dipping free kick but the netminder tipped it over the bar. David Parkhouse had a better chance to double the lead as half time approached.

Maxim Kouogun’s error allowed the striker through on goal but Matthew Connor did well to save. And it was the home side who levelled two minutes before half time. John Kavanagh a deep cross and Michael O’Connor rose highest to head the equaliser past Cherrie.

The visitors started the second half well with McCrudden and Barry McNamee forcing Blues keeper Matthew Connor into smart saves. Michael O’Connor’s cross for Walter Figueira was well cut out by Cherrie as the Blues looked for the lead goal.

Kenny Browne couldn’t find the target for Waterford FC before Jamie McDonagh fired across the Waterford goal. Walter Figueira was next to threaten but Peter Cherrie saved well after good build up from Georgie Poynton.

Michael McCrudden headed over the Waterford crossbar before the home side had one late chance to grab all three points, but Shane Duggan couldn’t keep his effort on target after good work from Poynton, as the sides picked up a point each.
