Goals from Kenny Browne and Bastien Hery ensured a 2-0 win for Waterford FC against St Patrick's Athletic at the RSC.
The home side started brightly and almost grabbed the lead after 9 minutes. Bastien Hery found Izzy Akinade but Kevin Toner made a vital block. But it was the resulting corner which saw Waterford take the lead.
Paul Keegan whipped in the corner from the left and Kenny Browne rose highest inside the six-yard box to head past Barry Murphy to make it 1-0.
St Pat’s looked dangerous down their right and it was Simon Madden who created a great chance to level. Owen Garvan played the through but Simon Madden’s cross couldn’t pick out a red jersey and the danger was cleared.
Ryan Brennan had a good chance for St Pat’s from the edge of the area but he blazed over, before Waterford doubled their lead. Courtney Duffus laid the ball off to Hery and he powered the ball past Murphy from 30 yards.
Christy Fagan looked to get St Pat’s back into the game when he got on the end of Madden’s cross but he headed over the crossbar as St Pat’s tried in vain to get something from the game.
