Aaron Drinan struck twice as Waterford FC made a return to winning ways with a 2-0 win over St Patrick’s Athletic. Matthew Connor saved twice from Dean Clarke and Chris Forrester as St Pats started well. Scott Twine went close for the home side but his strike was saved by Brendan Clarke. Aaron Drinan opened the scoring on 18 minutes. Kevin Lynch’s free kick wasn’t cleared by the St Pats defence and Aaron Drinan headed beyond Clarke in the St Pats goal.   Clarke was saved well from Drinan and Scott Twine before Zack Elbouzedi struck the St Pats post. Clarke then saved from Lunney before Drinan doubled the lead.   JJ Lunney broke from midfield and played in Aaron Drinan who made no mistake from six yards.   Mikey Drennan had the ball in the back of the net after Brandon Miele had struck the bottom of the post but referee Paul McLaughlin blew for offside.   Harry Kenny’s side had shouts for a penalty turned down with ten minutes on the clock but referee McLoughlin waved plan on.   Izzy Akinade looked to make it 3-0 two minutes from time but defender Lee Desmond got back to stop the striker.   Mikey Drennan came close to halving the deficit in stoppage time but he shot over the crossbar as Waterford ran out for the three points.
