REPORT: Waterford 2-1 Shamrock Rovers

Waterford FC moved second in the Premier Division after a 2-1 win at home to Shamrock Rovers. A brace from Courtney Duffus helped Alan Reynolds side beat old rivals Shamrock Rovers in front of 3,010 at the RSC.    The game was only ten minutes old

Waterford FC moved second in the Premier Division after a 2-1 win at home to Shamrock Rovers.

A brace from Courtney Duffus helped Alan Reynolds side beat old rivals Shamrock Rovers in front of 3,010 at the RSC.   

The game was only ten minutes old when Rovers were reduced to 10 men; Ally Gilchrist given yellow cards for fouls on Dean O’Halloran and Courtney Duffus Waterford took the lead just after the half hour.

Bastien Hery found the run of Dylan Barnett and his cross to the back post wasn’t dealt with by substitute Luke Byrne, and Duffus fired under Tomer Chencinski for the opener.   But Rovers were level within two minutes.

Brandon Miele found Graham Burke on the right of the penalty area and he superbly curled the ball beyond the dive of Vigouroux.   The goals continued as Waterford were back in front wo minutes later; Gavan Holohan finding Duffus and he shot home under Rovers keeper Chencinski.  

Rovers pressed for an equaliser despite their man disadvantage. Vigouroux was foced to save from Lee Grace early in the second half before Sam Bone set up Dan Carr but he fired over.   Ronan Finn then fired wide before Miele’s free kick was saved as the home side held on to make it five wins from seven in the Premier Division.
