Wexford FC picked up a creditable point by holding second-placed UCD to a scoreless draw at Ferrycarrig Park.

The Students enjoyed the lion's share of possession in the opening period and cranked up the pressure on the hosts as the half wore on.

A decent chance fell to Daire O'Connor on 35 minutes, when he ran on to a through ball from Greg Sloggett but he scooped his effort off target. O'Connor went even closer in the 42nd minute but his beautifully-struck, curling effort was inches over.

A minute later the hosts almost made the breakthrough when the lively Jason McClelland saw his 25-yard shot strike the left-hand post. Although the Students continued to boss possession after the break they again had to wait until late in the half for the chances to come.

Daire O'Connor arrowed a shot wide of the post on 75 minutes, while Corey Chambers did well to block a shot from substitute Ben Hanrahan seven minutes later. Substitute Liam Donnelly went closest for Wexford FC, fizzing a decent shot over the bar on 81 minutes seconds after entering the fray.
