An assured penalty from the boot of Conor Keeley earned Cabinteely the points against Wexford FC in Ferrycarrig Park.

The defender fired Cabinteely in front on the half hour mark, blasting home a spot-kick after Kieran 'Marty' Waters had been taken down in the area. The goal was a real momentum changer as Wexford had looked good before falling behind and once they got their noses in front the visitors had more of a spring in their step and were the better side thereafter.

Shane Barnes was the first to threaten for the hosts, showing quick feet to dribble around a couple of would-be challenges before firing a shot off target in the 12th minute. In the 19th minute Dean Kelly saw his effort deflected off target and moments later he teed up Mark Slater, whose shot was straight at goalkeeper Stephen McGuinness.

Dean George was inches away from given the home side the lead in the 24th minute, but his brilliant 25-yard effort rattled the crossbar. Keeley then made no mistake from the spot in the 30th minute and the goal visibly gave Cabinteely a lift, with Dean Casey and Kieran Butler both having efforts on goal.

Cabinteely began the second-half as they ended the first, enjoying plenty of possession and Gaffney had to be alert to deny Dean Casey in the 63rd minute, advancing quickly off his line to save at his feet.

Moments later netminder Stephen McGuiness was called into action at the other end, thwarting Dean Kelly after he was played in by Mark Slater. In the 83th minute Conor Earley forced Kealan Gaffney to tip his 30-yard free-kick around the post and Wexford's hopes of grabbing an equaliser were dented when captain Ross Kenny was shown a second yellow card in the 87th minute.

Ryan Nolan had own last chance to salvage a draw in injury time, but his angled shot flew off target.
