Elsewhere, Longford Town cruised to a comfortable victory over Shamrock Rovers II with goals either side of the break.

Cobh Ramblers 0-2 Drogheda United

Drogheda United got off to the perfect start in the 2020 season with an impressive away-day victory at St. Colman's Park.

After an evenly-contested first-half, Chris Lyons found the break-through six minutes after the break. A fantastic goal, he found space 20 yards out and rifled the ball into the bottom corner to give Drogs the lead.

Ramblers' task was made even harder with 19 minutes remaining as Lee Devitt picked up a second yellow to reduce the home side to ten-men. Drogheda sealed the victory in the final ten minutes of the game as Sean Brennan slotted home a penalty to make it a winning start to the season for Tim Clancy's side.

Result: Cobh Ramblers 0-2 Drogheda United (Lyons 52', Brennan 84' PEN)

Longford Town 2-0 Shamrock Rovers II

Longford Town opened their 2020 account with a win after an entertaining encounter against Shamrock Rovers II at Bishopsgate.

De Town took the lead in the 23rd minute when the impressive talent Dervin found on the edge of the area and side-footed home into the bottom corner.

The home side extended their lead just after the break. Rob Manley, having moved from Cabinteely in the off-season, opened his Longford account when he headed home Shane Elworthy's cross in the 52nd minute.

Rovers were unlucky not to score on a number of occasions as Sinclair Armstrong rattled the cross-bar twice during the contest but De Town secured the points.

Result: Longford Town 2-0 Shamrock Rovers (Dervin 23', Manley 52')
