David McMillan scored his 12th goal in European competition to go top of the all-time League of Ireland goalscorers in Europe list, as the Lilywhites sealed a 4-0 win over Newtown.

Elsewhere, Bohemians sealed an impressive first leg result away in Iceland with a 1-1 draw against Stjarnan whilst Sligo Rovers suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to FH.

Dundalk 4-0 Newtown

Goals: Michael Duffy (33), David McMillan (39), Will Patching (62), Han Jeong Woo (90+4)

It was a comfortable night for the Lilywhites who all but sealed their passage to the UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round with a 4-0 win over Newtown.

Dundalk were noticeably fitter and sharper than their Welsh Premier League counterparts, who've only just began pre-season, and took the lead just past the half-hour through Michael Duffy.

Six minutes later, Darragh Leahy's superb cross was met at the back-post by David McMillan who headed across and into the net for his 12th goal in European competition.

Will Patching, who has returned from his impressive loan spell at Derry City, made it three just past the hour mark and Han Jeong Woo added a fourth in the final moments of the game. Dundalk travel to Wales for the second leg on Tuesday, July 13.

FH Hafnarfjordur 1-0 Sligo Rovers

Sligo Rovers suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Icelandic side FH with everything to play for ahead of the second leg next week at the Showgrounds.

The Bit O'Red will be disappointed to come out of the match with a defeat having created a number of opportunities in the first-half through Jordan Gibson and Romeo Parkes.

With 13 minutes remaining, Greg Bolger picked up his second yellow card to reduce the away side to ten men and the home side made it count when in the 85th minute, former Dundalk striker Steven Lennon found the net to score the only goal of the game.

Sligo will be buoyed by the performance however, with it all to play for in the second leg on Thursday, July 15 at the Showgrounds.

Stjarnan 1-1 Bohemians

Bohemians will be confident ahead of their Aviva Stadium date after an impressive performance to claim a 1-1 draw against Stjarnan.

It was a brilliant performance from Keith Long's side who were unfortunate to go behind in the 25th minute through Emil Atlason's strike.

The SSE Airtricity Premier Division side pulled themselves level thanks to a deflected shot into the path of Ross Tierney who was able to turn it home in the 63rd minute.

Bohemians will welcome Stjarnan to the Aviva Stadium next Thursday with 6000 supporters in the stadium as part of the government test events.
