Cabinteely suffered their first defeat of the season as Drogheda United closed the gap on the league leaders thanks to victory at Wexford.

Elsewhere, Shamrock Rovers II stunned Athlone Town with an incredible second-half performance and Bray Wanderers were held at Galway United with John Caulfield waiting to take over the Tribesmen after his appointment earlier today.

Cabinteely 0-3 UCD AFC

UCD AFC closed the gap to league leaders Cabinteely as Pat Devlin's side suffered their first defeat of the season.

It took the away side just eight minutes to take the lead as Colm Whelan found the net. Cabo's night was made even more difficult when Kevin Knight was shown a straight red card in the 35th minute.

The Students' victory never looked in doubt as just five minutes after the break, Yoyo Mahdy's strike doubled their lead and Mahdy completed his brace in the final minute of the match.

Wexford 0-3 Drogheda United

Drogheda United closed the gap at the top of the First Division to just two points thanks to an impressive second-half performance at Ferrycarrig Park.

After a lacklustre first 45 minutes, Tim Clancy's side didn't take long to find the net after the break as Mark Doyle put the away side ahead in the 48th minute.

Just four minutes later, Doyle notched his second of the game and Hugh Douglas secured the points in the final minutes of the game.

Athlone Town 0-4 Shamrock Rovers II

Shamrock Rovers II produced a devastating second-half performance to climb to seventh in the First Division table.

Brandon Kavanagh put Rovers into the lead 10 minutes after the break before Max Murphy scored his second goal in as many games in the 67th minute.

Kavanagh grabbed in second of the game five minutes later with the home side unable to cope with Rovers' movement. Kevin Zefi added a fourth to round off the victory with 11 minutes remaining.

Galway United 0-0 Bray Wanderers

Bray Wanderers remain in third position in the table thanks to a goalless draw against Galway United.

Both sides had chances to win the game but neither side found the net as Dylan Barnett was sent off in the final minute of the game.

Galway remain in ninth position in the table with John Caulfield set to take charge of his first match at UCD AFC next Friday.
