After the opening round of the fixtures in the SSE Airtricity League, we've had a look at the opening day form of the sides.

Remarkably, Shamrock Rovers lost their opening day fixture since 2004 (12 matches?!) whilst Waterford's defeat at Athlone could be explained by the amount of debutants in the side.

Check out our opening day facts below...

- There were no draws in the Premier Division opening day for the second season running.
- Twelve of the thirteen players who played for Waterford against Athlone Town on Friday night were making their debut for the club. Only Kenny Browne had previously played for Waterford and he only signed in midweek for the third time having spent last season with Cork City and the previous four seasons with St. Patrick’s Athletic.
- Waterford lost that match by 1-0 and Blues fans have not seen their team win a season opener since beating Wexford Youths by 3-0 in 2010.
- Drogheda United have won their first match in each of the last four seasons. Prior to that, they had lost their previous six opening fixtures.
- Dundalk’s victory over Shamrock Rovers on Friday night extended the Lilywhites opening fixture winning sequence to three and ended Shamrock Rovers’ unbeaten opening fixture sequence of twelve matches since their last such defeat in 2004 to Shelbourne at Tolka Park.
- St. Patrick’s Athletic have lost their opening fixture in each of the last three seasons and have not won an opening fixture since their 2013 season 1-0 defeat of Drogheda United.
