SSE Airtricity League First Division Champions Waterford have made a head-start on their preparations for the 2018 campaign with Paul Keegan the latest to commit to the club.

Waterford secured promotion to the Premier Division by winning the First Division title and have moved quickly to secure many of their star players who helped them clinch promotion.

Keegan was influential when he joined the club in the summer from English League One side Doncaster Rovers and will now play a major part in their upcoming Premier Division campaign. The 33-year old spent seven years in England and also had spells with Drogheda United and Bohemians.

Keegan follows Patrick McClean, Derek Daly, Dean O'Halloran, Estonian international Sander Puri and goalkeeper Matthew Connor to commit to the club for the 2018 season.

Promising youngster John Martin, Republic of Ireland Under-19 international, has also penned a new deal at the club following his U19 Player of the Year award at the club for his impressive season.

Speaking to waterfordfc.ie on his new deal, Keegan said: "I really enjoyed coming into the club in July. With the side sitting top of the table, I just wanted to help continue the good season that the club was already having.

"I enjoyed playing under the management team last season. They wanted us to play good football. It was great to be part of a team playing attractive, attacking football.

"The support was brilliant all the way through and I look forward to seeing the big crowds again next season, we need to make the RSC a difficult place for away teams to visit."
