Dylan Connolly showed Dundalk fans his striking prowess as the winger bagged two goals to spear head Dundalk to the semi finals of the EA Sports Cup.

The former Bray winger is looking to cement a place in this Dundalk side following his impressive display against Bohemians.

“I was delighted to get two goals but most importantly we got through to the next round, it was a good display from the lads so it was great.”

Connolly knows that competition for places is heating up but understands there is a strength and depth to the Dundalk panel with all players vying for a starting eleven spot.

“We have a big squad and we have a lot of talent in the team as you have seen tonight everyone is hungry to play and everyone wants to give the manager a head-ache, so it's all good.”

One of the outstanding performers of this season has been midfielder Jamie McGrath and Connolly is hoping the good relationship they are starting to develop on the pitch will pay dividends for both players as the season progresses.

“Jamie is a top class player, I have a good chemistry with Jamie, I just make the eye contact and he puts the ball in for me and he knows to utilise my pace.”

With the busy SSE Airtricity League schedule about to hit the Lilywhites, Connolly is showing that hard work and determination will reap the rewards.

“Hopefully my performance tonight will show the manager that I am ready and its up to him whether he puts me in or not but I will be ready and if not I will be still willing to work hard and go again”
