On a record-breaking evening for Cabinteely FC, striker Robert Manley took the plaudits for his two goals which saw off play-off rivals Longford Town. The victory was the South Dublin side’s 11th in league action in 2019 – a new record since entering the League of Ireland back in 2015. And the now 39-points total surpassed the record 38-points amassed back in the 2017 campaign. But the Green and Whites eighth clean sheet in the First Division this year shows that the Cabo defence is also doing its job too. "It was a great 2-0 win, and a clean sheet” declared defender Jack Tuite. “We built on last weeks’ draw with Shels. It keeps us going with a promotion push. Hopefully now we can stay in the play-off positions and push Shels right to the end of the season.” With Drogheda United defeating Limerick FC 4-1 at the Markets Field, just two points separate the Louth side in second place and Longford and Cabo who share joint-third spot. Now on the back of a seven-match unbeaten run, Pat Devlin’s charges have been in flying form since coming back after the summer break. “We went through a little tough patch for five or six games. But we’ve only been beaten four times all year. We’re after getting great confidence from that. And we’re picking up wins too,” declared the former Derby County trainee. “It’s the best record of wins Cabinteely have picked up so far. We just need to keep building on that. We’ve six (league) games to go until the end of the season. The lads are pushing each other to get the most points on board that we can.” Tuite championed the Stradbrook club’s efforts on and off the pitch as a collective effort to try and achieve their best ever finish in the First Division. “The club are taking great strides every year. Our position is improving all the time. We got a bit of stick on social media for saying we got better than one position in 2018. But we’re doing all the right stuff off the pitch. And it’s shown on the pitch. Our performances are better. The club is growing as one. We are happy enough with that.”League of Ireland
