Worst performance of the season - Longford Town boss Neale Fenn

Longford Town manager Neale Fenn cut a frustrated figure following his sides 2-0 defeat to an excellent UCD side on Saturday evening.

UCD produced an excellent performance to continue their run in top spot in the SSE Airtricity League First Division as Georgie Kelly helped himself to a brace.

The former Republic of Ireland underage international and Longford Town manager Neale Fenn believes his side need to produce much better performances if they are to gain promotion.

“We need to be better than we were tonight if we are going to win a cup or challenge for any sort of promotion or trophy," Fenn commented.

"We need to be a lot better than we were tonight and we just weren’t at it tonight.”

Fenn stated how the game never really going and expressed his disappointment with his side's second half performance, having gone in level at the interval.

“Just a really flat game. In the first half, UCD had a chance before the break but up until then, neither team created too much. We didn’t look like we were going to score and nor did they. 

"I didn’t think they were leading the contest up to half time and we said to the lads at the break to step it up a little bit. 

"We just didn’t do that in the second half, it was just flat, there was no tempo to it, we just never got going.”
 
Fenn rued his sides lack of threat in attacking positions, with the home side failing to create a clear cut chance throughout the game, before conceding what Fenn believes were two very soft goals, in what he described as Longford Town’s worst performance of the season so far.

“Lack of quality in or around the box, lack of quality in midfield and then they scored two, from where I was pretty simple goals.

"They virtually walked the ball into the net. So, we're really disappointed and it is definitely our worst performance. It is not what we’re about.”
